What do I need to do to prepare for my first appointment?

It's best to be well hydrated and use gentle exfoliation several days before your first appointment. If your skin is dehydrated, it tends to hold onto the hair which can result in breakage rather than complete removal from the root. Don't forget to chill out! The more tense you are, the more pain you experience. It has been our experience that taking an over the counter analgesic 45 minutes before your appointment will alleviate some pain.  Refraining from alcohol and caffeine is always a good idea as well.

Hello Sugar requires that every client fill out our comprehensive electronic consent form before their first appointment. You will find the link to the form in your welcome email.

Be sure to verify at which location your wax or sugar appointment is scheduled, and check out the directions on the respective location pages.

What is the difference between the Bikini and Brazilian services?

Are your aestheticians qualified?

Hello Sugar prides itself in its hiring process.  We set the bar very, very high for our aestheticians. Our licensed estheticians are well paid and consequently, we are very selective about who we bring onto our team.  All of our aestheticians have completed the necessary cosmetology or aesthetics licenses and have a strong background in skin education.  We require our girls to go through monthly ongoing training and to continually stay on top of the latest techniques and best practices.

Rest assured you’re in the best hands possible.  If you have any questions regarding your waxing procedure or post-skin care treatment, our aestheticians are happy to take the time to properly educate you.   At Hello Sugar, you’re not going to feel like just another number.  We love our clients and will take the time to make sure your Brazilian Wax or Brazilian Sugar experience is incredible.

How long do waxing and sugaring last?

You have three different hair growth cycles that are each approximately 10 days long so, we recommend consistently waxing every 4 weeks. Please be aware that you may not be 100% smooth the very first time you wax. Because of the different hair growth cycles, your hair may grow back "patchy". The more consistent you are, the smoother you'll be. There are many benefits to maintaining a regular hair removal cycle. Waxing regularly will cause the hair to grow back finer, thinner, and more sparse.

Does waxing hurt? Can I reduce the pain?

We do our best to make your experience as pain free as possible. Here are some tips to help minimize the pain:

  • Be consistent. This results in a less painful wax. Get on a consistent schedule and stick to it! Year-round is ideal.

  • Try to avoid caffeine before your appointment. Caffeine is a stimulant and can make your skin more sensitive.

  • Exfoliate before you come in.

  • Invest in a great numbing cream, it really will take the edge off!

  • The second appointment is less painful than the first and gets easier each time you come in (if you are still worried about the pain, ask your aesthetician about No Scream Cream, a topical cream that numbs the waxing area and reduces the pain by 50-80%).

  • We also suggest scheduling your first appointment right after your period. Your pain threshold is higher during that time, and you'll be more comfortable.

  • Stop shaving! We like you to come to see us about two weeks after your last shave because shaving can make the hair more resistant to wax.

How long after waxing can I have sexual intercourse? Are there any activities I should avoid?

Your hair follicles will be open for up to 24 hours after waxing and during this time, you will want to avoid sexual intercourse, swimming pools, hot tubs, and rigorous exercise to limit sweating and skin irritation. Your skin may also be more sensitive.  If your skin feels extremely irritated or is painful to the touch after the first day, it’s best to text Hello Sugar and speak with your aesthetician about the symptoms you are experiencing.  All of our aestheticians are highly trained in skincare and will be able to assist you. It is imperative to protect any freshly waxed skin from sun exposure.

Uh Oh! It's the day of my Brazilian wax appointment and I started my period. What should I do?

Be prepared that waxing may be more painful if you're on your period. If you are not shy, we have no problem waxing you, providing proper hygiene has been exercised.

How early should I arrive for my appointment?

No need to be extra early for your appointment! Arrive about five minutes early to your first appointment, just in case you need to use the restroom or if you need to fill out your online consent form, to be ready for your aesthetician at the start of your appointment! As a returning client, you are able to arrive right on time, but you can arrive early and wait until your appointment time in our lovely waiting rooms and use the restroom or grab some water before your appointment time arrives. We request you come in early, or on time, as our appointments are scheduled by service time and back to back! If you are running late, we have a grace period of 10 minutes before there is not enough time in the appointment until the next client arrives, if later than 10 minutes, we can help you reschedule as needed!

I've heard of the sugaring technique, but I do not know the difference between that and regular waxing. How is it different?

Sugaring is an all-natural hair removal method. Sugar is a paste made of sugar, citric acid, and water. The technique and application are more advanced. If you have coarse hair, then waxing may be a better option to start with.

What is the ideal hair length for my wax?

For traditional waxing, we advise 1/2 of an inch of hair. While everyone's hair grows at a different rate, this generally takes 10-14 days after your last shave. How about sugaring? Sugaring allows us to get hair that is shorter, therefore we advise 1/4 of an inch of hair growth or 7-10 days of hair growth after shaving. Please be aware that thinner hair hurts less. Your aesthetician will decide if your hair is too short, and may ask to reschedule your appointment for a few days later to let the hair grow out.

How do I care for my skin after my wax?

After 24 hours, we advise gentle exfoliation (with emphasis on the gentle). As this is practiced daily, the likelihood of various skin irritations may be greatly reduced. It has been our experience that combining mechanical and chemical exfoliation provides the best results. We offer a variety of products to help with this process. Please ask your aesthetician to educate you about which products may be best for your skin type!

Is there anyone who should not get waxed?

If you are on medication that increases your skin's photosensitivity, you may not be a good candidate for waxing. If you are using Retin-A or retinol products on your skin, discontinue the use of these products 3-5 days before your appointment. Clients taking the oral prescription Accutane should wait 12 months before waxing.

I like waxing and I want to become a regular client. What's the best way to save money on my future appointments?

Hello Sugar has a membership program, unlike any other wax salon. We reward our members for being consistent by offering the best deal in town.  Customize your membership package with any service you like and receive incredible prices up to 50% off.   For example, the price of a normal Brazilian wax is $60, but on the membership, it’s only $49 (that saves you $130 a year for something you are already doing!).  Be sure to check out our membership page and ask your aesthetician to learn more about these incredible ways to save.

Why is a desposit required?

Hello Sugar requires a non-refundable 50% deposit for an appointment 1 Hour or longer to hold the appointment. In the event of a late cancel (less than 12 hours notice) or a no show, this deposit contributes to helping the esthetician receive compensation for missed opportunities to work, as they are paid on commissions and unlikely to book in such short notice.
